ABSTRACT:
Casanova Brown - Peter Reginato
Dallas-born, New York-based sculptor of highly spirited steel
constructions. Reginato employs a rich, personal, and expressive
vocabulary of shapes, even naming them to give them their own
personalities - "pod, boat, watermelon". The use of
color is a more recent addition to his work, increasing both the
liveliness of the sculpture and the artist's ability to express
himself through shape and color. As you walk around the sculpture,
notice the interplay of flowing organic forms against straight
geometric ones, flat shapes against folded ones, open versus closed,
interlocking versus adjacent. One shape supports the other, with
the lightest ones seemingly on the bottom, defying completely,
an effect heightened by the use of different paint colors on the
steel shapes. Although carefully composed, "Casanova"
conveys the playful illusion of shapes thrown into the air and
frozen.
