The Great Gatsby, the 2013 Museum Ball, celebrates the glamorous Gold Coast era immortalized in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel. In the spirit of the Fitzgerald novel and the new Baz Luhrmann film, the Museum Ball through décor and the attire of Ball guests, will evoke that unforgettable era of fabulous parties and wealth on Long Island’s North Shore. The 2013 Ball, to be held on Saturday, June 8 at 7 p.m., returns to the grounds of museum’s own historic Gold Coast mansion, the former Frick Estate, Clayton. This elegant black tie evening of dining and dancing to the music of The Alex Donner Orchestra, along with a spectacular silent auction, is the museum's major annual fundraiser. Always a highlight of the local social calendar, the Ball provides an important component of the museum’s operating budget, offering support for an ambitious schedule of exhibitions and stimulating educational programs for adults, students, families and school groups. The Ball’s Media Partner is the prestigious magazine, New York Cottages and Gardens.

The handsome invitation to the 2013 Museum Ball is sponsored by Healthplex: Dr. & Mrs. Stephen J. Cuchel, Dr. & Mrs. Martin Kane, and Dr. & Mrs. George Kane. The 2013 Dinner Sponsor is Americana Manhasset. Ball attendees will vie for extraordinary auction items including artwork, trips, jewelry and unique local and travel experiences. New for 2013 is a Day at the Races, courtesy of the New York Racing Association, in which the winner will be named in the program and present a race trophy.

Tickets to The Great Gatsby, the 2013 Museum Ball, on Saturday, June 8 at 7 p.m., are
$1,000 per person at the Patron level, $500 per person at the Friend level and $350 per person at the Junior level (ages 40 and under). All but $200 of each ticket price is tax deductible.

Support the Museum

Since 1989 Nassau County Museum of Art has presented world-class exhibitions and stellar public and educational programming to Long Island communities.  We need your support to continue this tradition of excellence!

Your contributions support programming for children, exhibitions and family-related events. Please support your Museum and know that every dollar is an investment in the future of your community.

Here are just a few of the many wonderful reasons to contribute to the Nassau County Museum of Art:

  • Named one of the top ten museums in the New York Metropolitan area by Newsday
  • Named Long Island's Best Museum by LI Press
  • Named one of 12 of the most extraordinary Museums in New York State by Former Governor Pataki
  • Over 200,000 visitors attend the Museum every year - a figure that grows exponentially
  • More than 30,000 students participate in Museum Education Programs throughout the school year
  • Outreach programs are provided to local public libraries, senior centers, assisted living facilities, universities and hospitals.
  • The Museum is completely handicap accessible with a new outdoor ramp and elevator in the main building.
  • Fun indoors and out, the Museum features an Outdoor Sculpture Garden - the largest in the northeast - with works by Fernando Botero, Chaim Gross, Richard Serra, Mark di Suvero, Tom Otterness and many others. We are continually adding to the outstanding collection thanks to purchases made by the Museums own Contemporary Collectors Circle and the generous long term loans of patrons and galleries.
  • Natural Landscape is something that makes the Museum such a special place. There is plenty to experience on the 145 acre property. Visit the Formal Gardens, originally designed by Marian Cruger Coffin and restored to their original splendor. Walk any one of the nine Nature Trails or explore the historic Pinetum which boasts many spectacular trees including two Sequoias - the largest of their kind on the east coast!
